We once had a brother who had fallen away and seperated from his wife turn up on a sunday morning intent of dragging his children out of the hall. While I don't have a problem with a parent objecting to their children going to meetings I did think it was a little immature of him to turn up *at* the meeting and disturbing the meeting just to piss his wife off. He was there just to cause trouble. If you are going to have a domestic its best to do it behind closed doors, not do it in front of over a 100 people.

Shunned - but still friends?

they never told us directly that they are going to shun us but just did not phone any more.
now, there was a reason to email them because we had a not jw related question.

Its a form of conditional love. I think we've all bee there and all done it, shunned our friends, not because *we* wanted to but because we were told to.
Dub brainwashing is a powerful thing, you're just going to have to forgive them for being Dubs.

my husband was an elder for over 15 years.
during those years when he was an elder, our eyes began to be opened to what was going on behind the scenes, that their organization was more political than biblical.

Welcome to the group runningrussianboy, I can empathise with your story. When my parents split my mum's new husband made her chose between himself and us. As a result we got cut off and we lost our mum. There are some really selfish people out there.

After being a JW, do you experience panic when someone expresses disapproval
by Elsewhere inhaving grown up in the wts i was always taught that there are very serious consequences that result when those in authority do not approve of you.. q: what happens when you break a wt rule?.
a: very quick and brutal punishment in the form of shunning and ostracism.
there is no middle ground... you either get no punishment or extremely severe punishment.. having grown up knowing only those two possible outcomes i find that i tend to become panicked when friends or authority figures express disapproval.

I don't get panicked but i do get angry at criticism. I hate anyone criticising or judging me. I was always being counselled over something stupid and trivial and I guess I've grown resentful and hostile towards criticism now.
